The volume in your home is maxed and there seems to be no way to turn it down.  Your daughter refuses to eat.  Your  son is distant or combative.  You and your partner feel lost, resentful, angry or sad.  You are anxious, worried, or depressed.

Welcome,

My name is Kris Coppedge, and I am a mental health therapist in Lynnwood.  I work with adults, teens, and children, and with individuals, families, and couples.  I help people with difficult emotions, struggles in relationships, and with issues that decrease a person's ability to function in his or her various roles.

For many of us, asking for help is a challenge.  We might think that we should be able to handle it, cope with it, or fix it ourselves.  If we have been deeply hurt, we might be afraid to ask for help.

Often the source of our distress is hard to pinpoint.  Some people ask "what's wrong with me?"  It might be that you are having a normal response to an abnormal event. Traumatic experiences can leave a person feeling like an alien, always out of place and always in danger.

Therapy is not a one size fits all endeavor.

Once we talk and I begin to understand your particular concerns, we will talk about how I can best help you. I might work just with you, or with you and your family. When I work with children, I also serve as a coach to parents so that they can do the therapy work between sessions.

With 30 years of experience, I am able to provide help using many different approaches.   Some  types of issues are best helped by learning new ways to interact and communicate; others are helped while learning new skills to tolerate and manage diffiult emotions.  Eating disorders require that I team with a physician and often a nutritionist.

There are many types of therapies or approaches such as solution focused, psychodynamic, mindfulness, EMDR, CBC, and many many more.  No one approach has all of the answers to any one person's problems.    My job is to provide the treatment that is most likely to help you with your concerns.

The other pages of this website contain information relevant to particular age groups or particular problems such as eating disorders.  Call or email to talk further or to make an appointment.

Cordially,

Kris

What does it cost to see me?

I charge $105/hour.

Do I have a Sliding Fee Scale?

I have a sliding fee scale for those without insurance.  Call for more information and to ask if I can see you at a reduced rate.

Do I bill Insurance?

I bill as an "out of network" provider.  If you need help to find out if you have "out of network" mental health benefits, I can check for you.

How much does insurance cover?

Everybody's insurance is different, and "out of network" providers are usually covered at a lower rate.   In my experience, most companies will pay 50% to 80% of the fee for out of network providers.

What do" LMHC" and "LICSW" stand for?

   LMHC:  Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

   LICSWLicensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.

I have two masters' degrees.  One qualifies me to be an LHMC, and the other to be an LICSW.  Both credentials qualify me to be a psychotherapist.  3q

What is the difference between counseling and therapy?

The terms "counseling" and "therapy" are used interchangeably, although historically they were considered to be very different.  It used to be that a counselor was a person who gave counsel or advise.  Career counseling is an example of this.

Therapy, or psychotherapy, was used to imply a process of healing.  Therapy is a type of process that leads to healing.  The therapist develops a respectful and trusting relationship where the "client" or "patient" can freely express emotions and talk about very personal and private thoughts and feelings.
